Maximize Cloud Economic Benefits and Retain Big Data with Ease and Efficiency
RainStor’s architecture is very well suited for a cloud deployment addressing business requirements at low operational costs. With RainStor’s extreme compression and de-duplication, you enable greater efficiency across storage, bandwidth and compute power. Scalability over time is near linear as cores are added to optimize query performance and minimize the size of data transmitted to and from the cloud environment.
Additionally, because RainStor requires very little administration and tuning and you can easily integrate with system monitoring tools through RainStor API’s overall maintenance costs are significantly reduced.
Key benefits for a RainStor cloud deployment include:
- Deploy at the lowest cost per terabyte for data retention and online query: Realize significant savings on bandwidth, storage, allowing for elastic tradeoff of computing resources, and near zero administration.
- Stay Compliant with data retention and full accessibility: Configurable retention and expiry rules can be set to automatically manage the life of the data residing on a public or private cloud.
- Ease of use and integration, no custom code or changes to query access:Data retained in RainStor on the cloud provides an enterprise-class SQL interface and a standard ODBC/JDBC connection allows client-side reporting tools to access data which minimizes impact and any disruption to the end-user.
How it works:
- RainStor provides a virtual machine (VM) that can be run behind the on-premise firewall so that data is loaded into the RainStor repository prior to cloud transmission. With this architectural approach, RainStor significantly reduces the bandwidth and associated cost of moving large amounts of data to the cloud.
- RainStor supports a variety of storage systems including Amazon S3 and RainStor’s Virtual File System supports multi-tenancy with each tenant or customer’s data stored in a separate store but within the same RainStor system.
- Data is accessed on demand using SQL Query language and other BI tools. The SQL queries can be directed at any node, which then instantly becomes the “master” node. Depending on the query type, part of the query compute workload is distributed to other nodes in the cloud, which allows RainStor to scale out on both the compute and storage side.

RainStor’s key product capabilities are essentially the same whether deployed on-premise or the Cloud which actually enables organizations to future-proof for when and if they want to deploy on a cloud environment. How you ingest, compress, manage, query and scale are exactly the same and as long as your SLA’s are met, you can take full advantage of the economics of a cloud deployment.
